Sand n sketch was originally named "Mystic Mountain Beauty" also thought to be "Pareidolia" def: the tendency to perceive a specific often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern.  My first Sand n Sketch image is shown to the right:

Sand n sketch is created by scratching/sanding the surface of this "unique" rock with a small piece of 320 grit sandpaper using a few drops of water.  When the perfect consistency of the water and white powder from the sanding of the surface of the rock is achieved.  I have only a minute or two to complete the picture or my surface will start to dry and will need to start the process over again.

When I discovered this cool 3D image on the rock I immediately tried to do it again.  Every time achieving a different result more beautiful than the first one.  I did not use chalk pastels for colour until several years after the initial discovery.
